IV Vitamin C
High Dose Vitamin C IV Therapy
High dose Vitamin C IV therapy is one of the most promising alternative therapies in the fight against cancer. Receiving Vitamin C intravenously has been proven to effectively raise extracellular levels of vitamin C, while taking it orally is incapable of achieving the same effects.
High dose Vitamin C (25-100 grams), when given intravenously, has the potential to destroy cancer cells while leaving healthy cells alone. According to researchers, Vitamin C leads to the formation of hydrogen peroxide inside the cells. Catalase is the enzyme responsible for getting hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) out of the cell by turning it into water and oxygen. Cancer cells lack the Catalase enzyme which other healthy cells have in abundance. Without Catalase enzyme, there is an accumulation of peroxide that reacts with iron creating an excess of free radicals within the cancer cells. This results in selective death of cancer cells without damage to any healthy cells. This is how researches explain its potential to prolong life in cancer patients.
High dose vitamin C is administered as an IV drip over 1-2 hours, 1-3 times per week and appears to be remarkably safe.
The IV is virtually painless and very few side-effects have been reported. The most common side-effect is fatigue that lasts only breifly. IV Vitamin C is contraindicated in those with kidney disease or G6PD deficiency. The doctor will test kidney function and G6PD prior to administering any IVs to ensure patient safety.
More exciting new research on Vitamin C is emerging, including a recent study that may have identified an additional mechanism by which Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) slows or arrests tumor growth. The study found that high dose Vitamin C stops cancer cell replication (proliferation) when administered as a high dose IV. Read full text article here
