Chelation
The state of our environment can have serious implications on the health of an individual, particularly if the body’s detoxification pathways are impaired either through genetics or due to an overload from high amounts of toxin exposure in the home, workplace, or other. In this day and age, we are exposed to unimaginable amounts of solvents, pesticides, heavy metals, and estrogen-like compounds through our food, air, water, plastic containers, and personal care products. Because of their unnatural chemical structures, it is very easy for these toxins to enter our body, yet very difficult for them to leave. Therefore they accumulate in the body’s fatty tissue, lungs, joints, brain, bone, nervous system, and other unsettling places. Most illnesses are either worsened or caused by toxic environmental factors. Chelation is a procedure that uses a naturally derived compounds known as EDTA or DMSA. They are prescrigbed either orally or intravenously, depending on the person. Some examples of health conditions that may be affected by toxicity include:
- Aluminum and Mercury in Autism Spectrum
- Heavy Metals and Anxiety
- Heavy metals & solvents in Fibromyalgia
- Lead and high blood pressure
- Pesticides and nervous system disorders
- Arsenic and bi-polar disorders
- Plastic exposure and breast cancer
- Plastic and fibroids, infertility, or other hormone imbalances
- Chemicals in skin care products and cancers
At Whole Life Health Care, Dr. Nicole Schertell has been trained to know how the environment can impact your health, and she will formulate a testing and treatment protocol to help your body detoxify. This will improve the body’s ability to heal from numerous health conditions. Common illnesses associated with enviornmental toxicity include:
- Multiple Chemical Sensitivity
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Allergies
- Epilepsy/Seizures
- Alzheimer’s disease
- Parkinson’s disease
- Cancer
- Uterine fibroids
- Chronic viral conditions
- Arthritis
- Autoimmune diseases
- Chronic Fatigue
- Brain Fog
- Fibromyalgia
- Blood pressure problems
- Insomnia
- Autism/ADD
Testing for Toxicity:
Testing for heavy metals involves a simple and inexpensive at-home urine collection which is sent to the lab for analysis. The patient swallows several safe chelating pills prior to the urine collection, which helps to determine the level of toxins that have built up in the body over time. This type of testing is much more accurate than a hair-analysis, and is superior to blood testing which will only indicate if the patient has been exposed to the heavy metal over the previous 7 days. Laboratory tests are also available to evaluate how well the body’s detoxification enzymes are working, to determine if any nutrients have been depleted by the toxic exposure, and to evaluate the total body burden of chemical solvent accumulation. These tests may involve both urine and blood collection, and can be ordered for you by our naturopathic doctor.
